A Downtown Detroit Wedding Full of Personal Touches and Pure Magic

As an Ann Arbor wedding photographer, I get to witness so many beautiful and unique celebrations—but Elin and Tim’s wedding was something truly magical.

Elin got ready at the Shinola Hotel in downtown Detroit, and the moment I walked into the lobby, I was blown away by the design details. If you ever find yourself in the area, it’s absolutely worth a visit—chic, cozy, and full of character.

When I stepped into Elin’s room, I was struck not only by her radiant presence, but by her wedding details—leafy lace, tulle, her bold purple hair, and a vibrant rainbow bouquet that made her look like the fairy queen of this enchanted garden celebration. 🌈👑

A Heartfelt Backyard Ceremony Filled with Love and Legacy

Next, I made my way to Tim’s parents’ home, where their Ann Arbor backyard was transformed into the sweetest setting for their ceremony. The house was layered with generations of memories—every surface held keepsakes and stories.

When I saw Tim had two ties laid out, Elin laughed and said, “Who would’ve guessed Tim would have the wardrobe change!” These little moments are what make each wedding so personal and fun to capture.

They said their vows under a floral arch that looked like it was crafted by woodland spirits—seriously, it was that dreamy. 🌿

Croquet, Peonies, and Family Heirlooms

After the ceremony, Tim rallied the guests for a game of croquet. His dad, Tony, was a strong competitor… but Tim emerged the unquestionable croquet champion—and, of course, the champion of Elin’s heart. 💚

One of my favorite photos from the day is of Elin holding a peony picked from Tim’s grandmother’s bush—such a tender tribute to family legacy.

Dinner was a delicious vegetarian feast, served on heirloom china passed down through generations. The dessert? A homemade spread of cakes and cookies prepared by their loved ones.

Everything about this day felt intentional, warm, and completely them.
